Sam Alon

Sam Alon is a singer, pianist, songwriter, dancer, and actress based in Los Angeles, California. Since 2004, after becoming Student Director of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, Sam has performed at such storied venues as St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, DreamWorks Studios, the Pasadena Playhouse, and the International Ballroom at the Beverly Hilton, among others. The winner of numerous singing competitions, including the Next Generation Jazz competition, Sam and her vocal group were invited to perform at the 2007 Monterey Jazz Festival, alongside Diana Krall, Terence Blanchard, and legendary composers Sonny Rollins and Dave Brubeck. Sam has since worked with highly-acclaimed music professionals, including members of Michael Buble's big band, members of Brenna Whitaker's band, Jason Goldman, Darlene Koldenhoven, Marya Basaraba, Mary Ekler, Joey Albert, and Pops Fernandez. She's performed at many varied and esteemed events in the Los Angeles area, including the popular “Nutcracker Swings” concert with the Pasadena Jazz Orchestra, and a private event hosted by actress Jessica Alba, who praised Sam as having “the voice of an angel.”

Drawing inspiration from her classical and jazz training, her experience in musical theater, and her extensive world journeys, Sam composes original and highly inventive songs, transcending simple categorization. Influenced in equal measure by such timeless singers as Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O’Day, as well as contemporary artist Amy Winehouse, Sam’s music travels seamlessly through genres and across generations. Whether singing her own songs or interpreting one of her favorites, her voice always remains the driving force behind the music, showing the strength, confidence, and control of someone well beyond her years.

Sam released her debut EP, Sleep to Dream (2013), a collection of five original songs, exploring a wide array of styles, from laid-back, classic soul to hard-driving indie rock. Sam joined the eclectic L.A. band Wistful Sleepers and released an EP titled The Wistful Sleepers’ Disconnected Dreams! (2018) that offers not just a story but blends spectacle and sound. With collaborations from musicians from all over the globe, Sam’s music is a testament to her many talents—as a songwriter, a musician, and a singer of unmistakable force. Her songs “These Tears” was placed in feature film “No Sunlight” (2016) and “Hollywood” was placed in feature film The Wedding Invitation (2017).

Sam is currently in her final year at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music majoring in Music History & Industry. She has flourished in all of her classes, including Music Supervision, Film & Music, History of Rock & Roll, History of Western Music, Intro to Songwriting, The Art of Music Production, Seminar in Music Industry, Music Mind & Brain, and Writing About Music. Sam is pursing a career in Music Supervision and is currently working as music supervisor on a music documentary student film for her capstone project. Sam is also a working actress and a loving mother to two-year-old Isabel and baby Theodore.
